TIP OF THE WEEK: ORGANIZING YOUR FABRIC…

LAST WEEK THE PLAN WAS TO MAKE THE NEXT FEW TOPIC’S OF THE WEEK ABOUT TOTE’S. THAT CHANGED BECAUSE LATER IN THE WEEK I RECEIVED A MONTHLY NEWS LETTER FROM JOANN’S. I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOME FANTASTIC TIPS ON ORGANIZING YOUR FABRIC.

One subject that generated considerable discussion and ideas across a couple forums was about organizing your fabric stash. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

Review & Refresh It – Fabrics can get disheveled. Go through your stash periodically. Air it out, refold it and group like fabrics together by type and color.
Donate It – Consider what fabrics you no longer want to keep or use and donate them to a local charity, school, community center or theater.
Digitize It – Before putting it away, take photos of fabrics to create digital swatches (why cut when you can click?). Create a log with the images and notes about the fabric type, yardage, etc.
Stack It – Try storing fabric in clear stackable bins with lids. The bins keep fabrics dry and dust free, and you can easily see what’s inside. Maybe even number them and record the numbers in your log for quick reference.
Hang It - Alternately, using clothes hangers to store fabric in a closet or, if seeing your fabric inspires you, display it neatly on a quilt rack.
Use It! – The best way to keep your stash tidy is to use it. For example, you can use up smaller pieces of fabric (12″ square) by making custom pincushions.

THESE ARE AWESOME TIPS THAT I NEED TO CONSIDER BECAUSE I HAVE 2 HUGE BOXES OF FABRIC THAT I NEED TO ORGANIZE. I’VE ALREADY PUT A BUNCH IN A BAG THAT I AM GOING TO DONATE TO THE LADIES IN CLASS WHO I KNOW WILL USE IT.

I AM IN CLUTCH PRODUCTION AGAIN. BOUGHT A BUNCH OF FUN FABRIC THE OTHER DAY, I JUST NEED TO MATCH THE LINING AND BUY SOME SNAP CLOSURES (GOING TO L.A. FOR THOSE.) WAY CHEAPER AND I NEED TO BUY LOT’S AND LOT’S OF THOSE. PICTURES WHEN I AM DONE.

I GAVE THE TOTE’S TO THE LADY IN THE SEWING CLASS. SHE LOVED THEM. AS I WAS HANDING THEM TO HER THE TEACHER SAID “WHERE DID YOU BUY THOSE??” I TOLD HER I MADE THEM. SHE SAID THEY LOOK REALLY NICE LIKE THEY WERE STORE BOUGHT. THAT’S THE NICEST COMPLIMENT I’VE RECEIVED!!! I AM SO GLAD MY STUFF IS STARTING TO LOOK THAT GOOD.

I HOPE THOSE KIDS GET TO GO ON THEIR TRIP!!!

OFF TOPIC AND I MAY DO THAT EVERY NOW AND AGAIN
I LOVE OUR EARTH AND EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.
I DON’T EXPECT YOU TO RESPECT HER AS MUCH AS I DO
BUT I DO ASK THAT YOU DO YOUR PART, TO HELP PROTECT HER. EVERYTHING COUNTS. VISIT THE LINKS TO YOUR RIGHT UNDER RESPECT YOUR MOTHER. THANK YOU.
