HAPPY FIRST DAY OF JUNE!!

WITH BASEBALL SEASON STARTING AND THE NIECES SOFTBALL GAMES I HAVE BEEN SO BAD AT POSTING THE PAST FEW MONTHS.
TIP OF THE WEEK TUESDAY: SEWING TIP’S I’VE LEARNED THAT HAVE HELPED ME, AND I HOPE THEY WILL HELP SOMEBODY ELSE.
WEB CRAWLER WEDNESDAY: SITES I LIKE TO VISIT!
TYSON THURSDAY: MY PUPPY GUY DESERVES HIS OWN DAY!!
FLICKR FRIDAY: THIS IS WHEN I POST PICTURE’S OF WHAT I’VE MADE DURING THE WEEK.

I’VE TALKED ABOUT MAKING SURE YOU KEEP YOUR MACHINE CLEAN BEFORE. I WAS ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT THE INSIDE AND MAKING SURE I CLEANED THE DUST OUT EVERY OTHER DAY OR EVERY OTHER TIME I USED IT. I SEW A LOT, ALMOST DAILY SO IT’S VERY IMPORTANT.

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WHILE SEWING ABOUT 300 FELT STOCKINGS, I REALIZED THAT THE TOP OF MY MACHINE WAS STAINED. NO MATTER WHAT I DID, IT WOULD NOT COME OFF. SO THIS YEAR WHEN I MADE 50 VALENTINE BAG’S FOR THE NIECES, I PUT TAPE ON MY NEW MACHINE. YES IT LOOKS SILLY, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN.
I DON’T KNOW THAT ALL FELT DOES THIS, BUT RED FELT STAINED MINE

SO TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM MAKE SURE YOU TAPE YOUR MACHINE BEFORE SEWING FELT.

MINE STILL HAS SOME ON THERE FROM BEFORE VALENTINES DAY LOL

THE 2 MOST POPULAR BRANDS ARE PROBABLY FISKAR & GIGNHER. I’VE USED BOTH AND HAVE LOVED THEM BOTH. I HAVE ALWAYS BOUGHT FISKAR PROBABLY BECAUSE I AM TOO CHEAP TO BUY GIGNHER LOL.

I PROBABLY SHOULD GET TO THE POINT LOL
MY TIP TODAY IS SPEND THE MONEY ON A GOOD PAIR OF SCISSORS. THE QUALITY OF YOUR WORK WILL BE BETTER AND YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.
GIGNHER IS MORE EXPENSIVE BUT VERY MUCH WORTH IT. I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT FISKAR EITHER. I HAVE ALWAYS USED THEM AND THEY HAVE BEEN GOOD TO ME.

I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY AND THANKS FOR VISITING.

“Use your rotary cutting system to save valuable cutting time. Position one to two large mats under your pattern. Instead of pinning, use fabric weights to hold your pattern in place. Use straight-edge cutting tools for straight seams and French Curve cutting tools for curved areas. Instead of clipping out notches, clip into the fabric seam instead.”

MY ROTATY CUTTER + MAT WERE PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I’VE BOUGHT SINCE I STARTED SEWING ASIDE FROM MY MACHINE.

HI!!!

I FOUND THIS TIP ONLINE, BUT ONE OF MY SEWING TEACHERS HAD TOLD ME THIS SAME THING WHEN I FIRST STARTED SEWING.

“WHEN CUTTING FABRIC, TAKE LONG BITES OF THE FABRIC AND DON’T LET THE SCISSORS SHUT COMPLETELY. STOP ABOUT ONE INCH FROM THE TIP. RE-OPEN THE SCISSORS, SLIDE THEM ALONG THE FABRIC THEN CONTINUE TO CUT. ”

I LIKE TO USE MY ROTARY CUTTER IF I AM MAKING A TOTE BAG OR CUTTIN SQUARES FOR QUILTS BECAUSE IT’S SO MUCH EASIER. FOR PATTERNS IT’S HARDER TO USE A ROTARY CUTTER SO I FOLLOW THE TIP ABOVE AND IT WORKS FOR A MUCH CLEANER CUT.

HAVE A GREAT EVENING, I KNOW IT’S KIND OF LATE BUT I KNOW SOME OF YOU LIKE TO GOTO BED LATE.

JOIN ME TOMORROW FOR A FUN WEB CRAWLER WEDNESDAY!!

THANKS FOR VISITING.

WELL I AM NOT SURE IF YOU WANT TO CALL THIS A TIP OR A TUTORIAL TUESDAY LOL EITHER WAY HERE IS HOW I ROUND CORNERS AND I HOPE IT HELPS YOU TOO.

I ROUND CORNERS ON BLANKET AND JUST RECENTLY STARTED TO DO IT ON APRONS. I THINK IT MAKES BOTH LOOK BETTER. STILL USE SQUARE CORNERS ON BLANKETS SOMETIMES, DEPENDING ON HOW IN A HURRY I AM TO GE THE BLANKET DONE.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED.
- FABRIC YOU ARE GOING TO BE CUTTING
- CUTTING MAT
- ROTARY CUTTER
- PLASTIC PLATE
YOU WON’T BE NEEDING THE RULER, I HAVE NO IDEA WHY I PUT IT IN THE PICTURE LOL. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A ROTARY CUTTER OR A CUTTING MAT, DON’T RUN OUT AND GET THEM UNLESS THEY ARE SOMETHING YOU PLAN ON USING ALL THE TIME. I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO CUT FABRIC IF YOU DON’T HAVE THOSE 2 ITEMS.

STACK YOU FABRIC TOGETHER TO THE CORNERS WILL BE EVEN ON ALL SIDES. (FOR THE BLANKETS DO 2 CORNERS AT A TIME. THE FABRIC IS THICKER AND WILL BE HARDER TO CUT.

LINE THE PLATE UP ON BOTH SIDES. ALL THE WAY TO EDGE SO YOU MAKE SURE YOU DON’T CUT FABRIC THAT DOES NOT NEED TO BE CUT.

START CUTTING ON ONE END

GO ALL THE WAY TO THE OTHER SIDE.

DONE!

Like I said above, if you don’t have a rotary cutter and a mat don’t run out and get one. Rounding corners without those 2 items is just as easy.

Follow all steps up to where you line the plate with the fabric. Take fabric chalk and trace along the plate and then just use your scissors and cut the fabric.
If you don’t have fabric chalk then a regular pencil works just the same.

I hope that helps and I didn’t confuse you. This is only my second tut and as you can tell it’s not all that great.

Here is a list of other stuff I have use round corners for.

- table cloths
- aprons
- fleece + flannel blankets
- flat tote bags
- quilts (before adding the binding)

I hope you all have a beautiful december.
